Donald John Bruns

October 27, 1935 ~ October 23, 2017 (age 81) 81 Years Old


Donald John Bruns was born October 27, 1935 in Chicago, IL.  He was the son of John A. Bruns and Marie (Claus) Bruns.  He grew up in Chicago and earned his diploma at Schurz High School.  He served two years in the United States Army with the 77th Special Forces Psychological Warfare Unit from 1954-1956.

On November 26, 1955, Don was united in marriage to Kathryn Wilson.  They were married for 57 years and had two children. 

Don worked as a journeyman lithographer in Chicago for 18 years before moving to Cedarcreek where he owned and operated Bruns Country Store for 20 years.  He also served in many volunteer capacities, first as a Cub Scout Master in Chicago.  He was President of the Cedarcreek School Board, a founding member of the Cedarcreek Fire Department serving 10 years as President of the Board and served 5 years on the Taney County Planning and Zoning Board.  Don also gave his time as a founding member of the Mended Hearts Local Chapter serving 10 years as President of the Board; he served on the Senior Services Tax Board for Taney County and was also a member of the Southwest Office on Aging’s 17 county Senior Board.

Don and his wife Kay enjoyed dancing with the Boot Kickers group.  He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and was ecstatic with their World Series Win in 2016.  He and Kay are once again singing the 7th inning stretch song together.

Don entered into rest on Monday, October 23 at his home in Kirbyville at the age of 81.

He is survived by his daughter, Donna Bruns; son John Bruns and wife Sandy; his four grandchildren Tracy and Tom Fairbairn, Julie and Joe Winget, Nathan and Jayna Bruns and Jesse Morton and Stephanie Brown; along with seven great-grandchildren.  Don is also survived by one sister, Dolores Foreman and three nieces, Ellen Grizzle, Sue Matthews and Sandy Williams.

Memorial services will be Friday, October 27 at The River Church in Forsyth.  Visitation will begin at 4:00 P.M. with the service to start at 6:00 P.M..  Arrangements are under the direction of Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home and Crematory, Branson
