Wayne Whitley “Hoot” Gibson was born on November 19, 1934, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Navy.

Throughout his life, Wayne lived in North Carolina and California before relocating to Branson, Missouri, in the late 1990s. His Navy training prepared him for many years of service with the United States government, including work connected with the State Department and the CIA, specializing in electronics. His service and assignments took him to several places around the world, including Cuba, Cyprus, the Philippines, and Guam.

After leaving Virginia, Wayne moved to California, where he worked alongside his sisters in the family catering business and enjoyed spending time with extended family.

Wayne was an avid golfer who deeply loved the game. He turned his passion into a career, operating Gibson’s Golf Works in Branson for many years before retiring. There, he was known for crafting custom-made professional golf clubs and sharing his knowledge of the sport with countless players. Along the way, he formed many lasting friendships and was well known for his warmth, humor, and love of golf.

Wayne entered into rest on February 5, 2026, at the age of 91, only a few months after the passing of his beloved wife, Jacqueline.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron Gibson and Gladys Gibson Walden; his granddaughter, Rachel; his siblings, Jere, Larry, Joan, Phyllis, Corene, and Lorene; and his wives, Laura and Jacqueline.

Wayne is survived by his daughters, Lisa of Virginia and Karen of Florida, whom he shared with his former wife, Shirley; his sisters, Carolyn and Pat of North Carolina and Linda of Illinois; his two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and the many fellow golfers and dear friends he made throughout his life.

Cremation arrangements are under the care of Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home & Crematory in Branson, Missouri. No services are currently planned.
