Susan Kay Arnold passed away peacefully on January 1, 2024 at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

Sue was born March 14, 1943 in Kansas City, MO to the late Paul and Meredith Sloan. She was an only child and was the apple of her parents’ eyes. She attended Ruskin High School in Kansas City, where she was a head cheerleader.

She married Lee Arnold in July 1970 and together they raised three boys: Mike, Marshall and Mark. They moved to Columbia in 1978 for Lee’s work at Columbia Regional Airport. It was in Columbia that she found her passion working for the University of Missouri. She became and remained the biggest supporter of all things Mizzou for the rest of her life.

After retiring in 1999, Sue and Lee moved to the home her father built on Bull Shoals Lake in Forsyth, Missouri. They made many memories with family and friends while living there. Sue moved to Centralia, Missouri in 2019 to be closer to family, remaining there until her death.

Anyone who met Sue found out quickly that she was quite a talker and had lots of stories to share. Sue was a huge sports enthusiast, particularly enjoying Mizzou football and basketball. She also took great pride in watching her grandchildren play sports. She enjoyed taking cruises over the years, bringing back treasures for her family. She could often be found crafting and sharing her creations with her children and grandchildren.

Sue is survived by sons Mike Banta of Waterloo, IA and Marshall (Nikki) Banta of Centralia, MO and grandchildren Taylor Arnold of Columbia, MO; Chandler Banta of San Antonio, TX; Evan, Gracie & Mea Banta of Centralia, MO; Auggie Banta of Waterloo, IA; as well as many other family and friends.

Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Arnold; son, Mark Arnold; parents, Paul and Meredith Sloan.

Service to celebrate Sue’s life will be at a later date.
