Robert "Bob" Gowan, Jr. D.D.S. Obituary

Robert E. Lee Gowan, Jr., D.D.S., (R.E.L. “Bob”) was born December 17, 1927 in Amarillo, Texas.  He was the son of Dr. Robert E. Lee Gowan, Sr. and Calpurnia (“Cappi” Christensen) Gowan.  As a boy, he attended grade school in Pennsylvania.  He attended high school at New Mexico Military Institute graduating in 1946 and then from junior college at NMMI in 1948.  Bob received the William McClure Saber Award in 1948 as the outstanding cadet of NMMI, as well as awards for excelling in football and basketball.  

 

He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from SMU in Dallas 1950 and married Ann Elizabeth Rankin.  They had a daughter, Leslie, and twin sons Robert E. Lee lll and John Christian Gowan.  He graduated dental school from the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston in 1959.  He operated two successful dental practices; one in Houston for 32 years and the other in Horseshoe Bay, Texas for 15 years.  He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

 

Bob married his wife, Revis on May 31, 1992 in Horseshoe Bay, Texas.  They moved to Blue Eye, Missouri in January of 2019 from Tulsa, OK.  

 

Bob passed away peacefully at home on “D-Day” June 6, 2019, at age 91.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Ann Rankin Gowan and Jordan A. Gray (step-son).

 

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 27 wonderful years Revis Gowan, his brother John (Judy) of Lake Jackson, TX, sister, Gail Fultz of Graham, TX, his daughter, Leslie Gowan Devillier (Bob) of Houston, sons  Lt. Col. (RET) Robert E. Lee Gowan III of San Antonio, Tx. and Dr. Chris  Gowan (Whitney) of Houston, TX.  He is also survived by stepdaughters Allison Mahathey (Tony) of Colorado Springs, CO and Christy Solomon (Bill) of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren; Parker (Tasha) Harden, Jeremy (Kim) Gray , Ashton Gray, Jaclyn Shepperson,  Jack and Brad Gowan, Olivia and Robbie Devillier, Michelle (Ryan) Nace, Danielle, Grayson , Nathan and Rachel Solomon; great-grandchildren; Townes and Collins Harden, Jackson Solomon and Ezra Jordan Gray.

 

A celebration of Bob’s life will be Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Morningside Church, 180 Grace Chapel Rd. Blue Eye, MO 65611 with a reception afterwards.

 

Full military rites will be rendered by the United States Army.
