Michael David McDowell Obituary

Michael David McDowell passed away unexpectedly on January 28, 2020 at the age of 51 at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, MO.  He was born at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, MO.  He was a graduate of Republic High School and technical school.  He resided in Branson, MO after high school until his death.

He was a self-employed handyman.  He loved to work with his hands.  He could fix anything he set his mind to and if he couldn’t he learned how.  He loved to learn how to do new things.  He thoroughly enjoyed cooking.  His ice cream was the one thing requested at family gatherings.  He loved the area lakes and rivers.  Boating, skiing, canoeing, swimming were among the many activities that he enjoyed.  He also participated in Stream Team cleanups.  Arrowhead hunting was also a favorite past time he shared with his wife.  Many hours were spent scouring the dirt for rocks shaped by ancient Indian hands.  He even learned how to flint knap.  His favorite activity from childhood was tormenting his brother and sister as only a little brother can do.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Maria (Mone) McDowell; whom he had a great love for.  His mother Frances (Glowala) Todd & step father Ron.  His father Joe McDowell.  His sister Terri.  His brother Scott & wife Andria.  His step sister Kim Taylor.  His Aunt Ilene Gauntlett.  His sister-in-law Idania Duncan & husband Jeff.  His mother-in-law Lupe Colon.  His nephews Chris (Stoey), Trey and Jesse.  He also leaves behind many other family & friends.  He never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Harry & Mabel McDowell and Irene Nemetsky and his uncle Howard Nemetsky.

There will be a service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 1 at the Assembly of God Church on T Hwy, Branson, MO.

In lieu of flowers we ask for donations to be made to your favorite animal shelter/rescue in memory of David and his love of animals.  He and his wife have spent their lives rescuing and helping as many animals as they could.

With his sudden and unexpected passing he leaves a huge hole in our hearts.  He will be missed more than words could ever express.
