Melvin Emery Wood was born on April 8, 1926 in Solomon, Kansas. He was the son of Chauncey & Cora (Roof) Wood. He spent much of his life in Kansas, graduating high school from Abilene High School in Abilene, KS and marrying Joanne Jones in Topeka, Kansas on August 21, 1949. Melvin enlisted in the United States Army and after an honorable discharge, he worked as a contractor for residential building and also a supervisor on commercial projects. Melvin worked for many years as a postal carrier from which he retired. He moved to Branson from Milford, Kansas.
In his retirement, Melvin and Joanne had an antique and craft business in Branson that they enjoyed operating. Melvin was a member of the Church of Christ in Branson. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, uncle and friend who will be deeply missed.
Melvin entered into rest on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at the age of 95.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Curtiss Lee Wood; and sister, Lucile Hull.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Joanne Wood of Branson; daughters, Melodie Wood and Lisa Martin of Branson; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson one niece and a nephew.
Services will be Sunday, June 6, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at the Church of Christ, Branson. Burial will be at a later date in Abilene Cemetery, Abilene, Kansas. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home and Crematory, Branson.
