Lucia Vergara Frye passed away unexpectedly while on vacation in Branson, Missouri on April 28, 2025, at 6:31 am. She was just shy of celebrating her 90th birthday in June.

Born in Bogotá, Colombia on June 22, 1935, Lucia met the love of her life, Henry Frye, while working as a secretary at the National Railroad of Colombia. Their love story spanned 67 wonderful years of marriage.

Lucia and Henry began their married life in Bogotá before moving to Denver, Colorado in 1960 with their first two children, Mauricio and Claudia. Their family grew with the arrival of Angie in the late 60s.

Her work ethic was truly remarkable. In Denver, she worked at a cleaner store and was recruited to help catch employees who were stealing. She later worked at the Samsonite luggage factory as a final inspector. The family relocated to Plano, Texas in the early 70s for Henry's job at Texas Instruments. She worked at Daughtery’s pharmacy and Tom Thumb for over 30 years, retiring as the General Merchandise Manager. She was known for training new managers to "do it the right way."

She had a passion for traveling, having explored four continents and visited more than 40 countries. She loved great food and trying new restaurants, often planning trips just to visit a restaurant she read about.

A devout Catholic, Lucia was deeply religious and a frequent church volunteer and supporter of St. Mark’s Catholic Church.

She was also a member of many social clubs and cherished her lifelong friends. They gathered monthly for birthdays, pot-luck meals, dancing, and many parties. She was active in Dallas, with the International Women’s Club, Rincon Colombiano, Asociacion Colombiana, Circulo Latino, and Grupo International Dallas (GID), holding leadership roles in many of these organizations, as well as being a member of the Club Bolivar in Denver.

Lucia was preceded in death by her parents, Rosa Rodriguez de Vergara and Antonio Vergara. She is survived by her loving husband, Henry; her three children, Mauricio Frye and wife Pam, Claudia Deycaza, and Angelica (Angie) Techmanski and husband Justin (Judd); 9 grandchildren: Mauricio, Sean, Alyssa, Caitlyn, Angela, Luis, Nicolas, Evan, and Erika; 15 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandsons. She is also survived by her sister, Cecilia Torres, her brother, Gustavo Vergara and wife Marilu, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service celebrating Lucia's life will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, May 16th, at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in the Sanctuary, 1201 Alma Dr., Plano, TX 75075.

Nacida en Bogotá, Colombia el 22 de junio de 1935, Lucía conoció al amor de su vida, Henry Frye, mientras trabajaba como secretaria en el Ferrocarril Nacional de Colombia. Su historia de amor abarcó 67 maravillosos años de matrimonio.

Lucía y Henry comenzaron su vida matrimonial en Bogotá antes de mudarse a Denver, Colorado en 1960 con sus dos primeros hijos, Mauricio y Claudia. Su familia creció con la llegada de Angie a finales de los años 60.

Su ética de trabajo era realmente notable. En Denver, trabajó en una tienda de limpieza y fue reclutada para ayudar a atrapar a los empleados que estaban robando. Más tarde trabajó en la fábrica de equipaje Samsonite como inspectora final. La familia se mudó a Plano, Texas, a principios de los años 70 para trabajar en Texas Instruments por Henry. Trabajó en la farmacia de Daughtery y en Tom Thumb durante más de 30 años, y se retiró como Gerente General de Mercancías. Era conocida por capacitar a los nuevos gerentes para que "lo hicieran de la manera correcta".

Le apasionaba viajar, habiendo explorado cuatro continentes y visitado más de 40 países. Le encantaba la buena comida y probar nuevos restaurantes, a menudo planeaba viajes solo para visitar un restaurante sobre el que había leído.

Católica devota, Lucía era profundamente religiosa y una frecuente voluntaria de la iglesia y partidaria de la Iglesia Católica de San Marcos.

También era miembro de muchos clubes sociales y apreciaba a sus amigos de toda la vida. Se reunían mensualmente para cumpleaños, comidas compartidas, bailes y muchas fiestas. Estuvo activa en Dallas, con el Club Internacional de Mujeres, Rincón Colombiano, Asociación Colombiana, Círculo Latino y Grupo International Dallas (GID), ocupando roles de liderazgo en muchas de estas organizaciones, además de ser miembro del Club Bolívar en Denver.

Lucía fue precedida en la muerte por sus padres, Rosa Rodríguez de Vergara y Antonio Vergara. Le sobreviven su amado esposo, Henry; sus tres hijos, Mauricio Frye y su esposa Pam, Claudia Deycaza y Angélica (Angie) Techmanski y su esposo Justin (Judd); 9 nietos: Mauricio, Sean, Alyssa, Caitlyn, Angela, Luis, Nicolas, Evan y Erika; 15 bisnietos y 5 tataranietos. También le sobreviven su hermana, Cecilia Torres, su hermano, Gustavo Vergara y su esposa Marilú, y muchas sobrinas y sobrinos.

Un servicio conmemorativo para celebrar la vida de Lucía se llevará a cabo a las 10:30 a.m. el viernes 16 de mayo en la Iglesia St. Mark’s the Evangelist Catholic Church en el Santuario.
