Jack Goodner Obituary

Jack Wayne Goodner, D.Ed., age 88, went home to be with the Lord at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2020. He was born in Oklahoma City, OK, on May 13, 1931 to Otis and Effie May Goodner.

The family moved to New Mexico and later became the first full-time, on-site staff at the Glorieta Baptist Assembly.  Jack finished high school in Albuquerque and graduated from the University of New Mexico. He completed his masters at UNM and then went on to get his D.Ed. from Arizona State University.

Jack began his career in public education, first as a teacher and then in administration before moving to educational service providers such as Science Research Associates and American College Testing Program (ACT).  He felt called to put his career track on hold in order to serve his faith as Vice President of Business Administration for William Jewell College and then later Vice President of Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Jack’s career then turned to helping others through consulting with clients such as Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO, where he served on the project team to develop Dollywood Theme Park in Pigeon Forge, TN, and Rupp Automotive in Chillicothe, MO, where he helped the organization prepare for sale after the tragic death of its owner.

He used these life experiences to then open his own business through the purchase of a small consulting firm known as Carr & Associates.  Over the next three decades, Jack grew the organization by using cutting edge computer platforms with industrial psychology tools to help organizations find the perfect fit for their leadership needs.

Jack married Frieda Marie Flook on September 1, 1951, and were blessed with four children, Jack Jr., Steven, Stuart, and Lanette.   Most of their later years were spent in the Branson, MO, area where they will rest together in the beauty of the Ozarks. They also had deep connections to the Gustafson family in Kenora, Ontario, Canada, where they spent time each year at the lake enjoying the fishing and beauty of the Canadian summers.

Jack was greeted in heaven by his parents, Otis and Effie May Goodner; his brother James (who passed away five days before Jack); his loving wife of 59 years, Frieda; and grandchildren Nicholas, Joshua, Jessica and Sarah.  Still to join this heavenly host are Jack Jr., (Sherry) of St. Peters, MO, Steven (Ann) of Sachse, TX, Stuart (Lisa) of Bozeman, MT, Lanette Holmstrom (Doug) of Kenora, ON, Canada, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren (so far).

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you consider a donation to College of the Ozarks. Promoting and supporting education for our country’s youth has always been a priority for both Jack & Frieda Goodner.  During their time in Branson, College of the Ozarks was a favorite place for dining and walking amidst their beautiful campus.
