Fred was 3 years older than I.  I grew up on a farm about 3 miles from the Pfister farm, and attended the same one room school as Fred.  I think he must have been a great teacher from an early age, as I was the only first grader, and all the older students helped me., especially Fred.  I thought I was the smartest 1st grader ever, and was encouraged by those older students to think just that!  Rest in Peace

Dr. Pfister was my academic advisor in the mid 90s at C of O. I have so many fond memories, including our 4-day History of the Civil Rights Movement field trip with Dr. Dalton's class across the south. He always spoke from the heart and taught with such passion.

He touched a lot of lives in all his many endeavors. I thought of him earlier this year when teaching my Whitman unit. I thought about emailing him to see if he still did his readings or had an videos. I wished I'd followed through.

I met both Fred and Faye at the School of the Ozarks in the late 70's. They were a couple then, but not yet married. Good friends, indeed. Fred, Faye and I were all in the play "My Three Angels" at Beacon Hill Theatre. We had a blast and even spent some goofy time chasing through the Green Room. Wonderful memories.

I thoroughly enjoyed working with Fred -- he was my editor and I was the art director for about the last seven years of The Ozarks Mountaineer magazine. Fred was always interesting to talk to, and learn from. I had wished we might find another project we would both work on together again. I will miss Fred and his distinctive laugh.
