Ted Bookout, 90, lifelong resident of Branson passed away December 22, 2021. Ted was born October 4, 1931, in the Branson Bull Creek area, to Edward and Elsie (Palmer) Bookout. He attended the Victor School through the eighth grade, where he was paid to start the wood stove for heat. Ted later graduated from Branson High School.
Ted proudly served in the United States Navy, serving as a medic, stationed on a ship in an active area and at base hospitals during the Korean Conflict. He was also part of the building crew as the medic at Table Rock Dam. Ted later spent a career at White River Electric Cooperative as a field engineer, retiring after 34 years of service.
Ted married Helen Plummer on January 13, 1954, in Harrison, Arkansas. They were blessed with three children: son Gary Bookout and wife Carol of Festus, Missouri; daughters Nita and husband David Ernst of Joplin, Missouri; and Marsha and husband Bryan Miller of Branson, Missouri.
Ted loved to garden. He would begin preparing his garden in January, and he would share the harvest of his labor with family and friends. He was also a faithful servant of God and witness of his faith. Ted had served as deacon at Branson Bible Church and then at First Baptist Church in Hollister, and was currently a member of Victor Baptist Church.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; brother, Harvey Bookout; and sisters, Emma Moore, Marjorie Bookout, and Virginia Hartzell.
Along with being survived by his children, Ted is also survived by his sister, Frances Wyman and husband Elwood of Reuter, MO; grandchildren, Matthew Bookout (Trisha), Mark Bookout, Sarah Chadbourn (Jonathan), Jonathan Ernst, Hannah Schwab (Zach), Bethany Schwab (Ethan), Seth Ernst (Zhengyuan), Elizabeth Miller, and Ethan Miller; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Carmen Plummer.
Services will be Wednesday, December 29, 2021, with visitation beginning at 12:30 PM, in Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home and Crematory, Branson. The funeral will begin at 2:00 PM, with Pastor David Ernst and Pastor Gary Bookout officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Ozarks Memorial Park Cemetery, Branson.
