Evelyn Lorraine Powell was born on January 9, 1931 in Trask, Missouri, the daughter of Cicero Henry Stapleton and Edna Virginia (Dowell) Stapleton. Evelyn passed away on December 1, 2025 at the age of 94 at Adventhealth Shawnee Mission Hospital in Merriam, Kansas. She was the mother of two children, Jo Elaine Davis and Michael D. Powell.


She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Marion Freden, her granddaughter Michaela Powell, and son Michael Powell. She is survived by her daughter, Jo Elaine Davis of Branson, 7 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren, her sister, Elaine Brotherton, her brother, David Stapleton and her dear friend, Scott Hess of Mission, Kansas.


Evelyn lived a full life in the Lenexa/Mission, Kansas area as a hairstylist and salon owner. She loved to travel and took several cruises, visited Hawaii multiple times and enjoyed a trip to Italy. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining for family and friends. She always had a warm, bubbly smile on her face and a witty sense of humor. Evelyn loved to play games and had a competitive spirit. She loved the small community where she resided in Mission, Kansas after retiring and desired to stay there as long as she could and would say “she had everything she needed at her fingertips.” She will be missed by her family and friends.
