Sanford Barnes Obituary

Sanford O’Daniel “Sandy” Barnes, 81, of Branson passed away, Sunday, January 12, 2020 at Pt. Lookout Nursing and Rehab in Hollister.  Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home and Crematory, Branson.

 

Sandy was born September 10, 1938 in Anadarko, Oklahoma.  He was the son of Lee H. Barnes and Lucille (Baker) Barnes.  He grew up in Oklahoma till the age of 15 when he began iron working and traveled across the United States building bridges.  He also worked on local projects including the Galena, Kimberling City and Long Creek bridges, Cox South Hospital and the Branson Police Department.  Sandy also operated the Barnes Hickory House with his wife Bonnie in the 1970s on West Hwy 76.  They later moved to Weslaco, Texas where they operated the Winters Texans Park for 22 years. 

 

Sandy enjoyed being on Table Rock Lake. He loved to fish and was an amazing barefoot water skier.  He was also a fantastic dancer.  He was a dance instructor in both Texas and the Boot Kicker in Kimberling City.  He was a great husband, father and the best granddad anyone could hope for.

 

Sandy was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Malbern and Donald and his sister, Shirley.

 

Sandy is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Bonnie Barnes of Branson; daughter, Sandra Ferdig of Branson; son, Danny Barnes and wife Cindy of Reeds Spring; sister, Neva Lee Walbrick of Lawton, OK; three grandchildren, Haylee Ferdig, Casey Heckman, and Kina Taylor; great-granddaughter, Emberlynn Harris and many nieces and nephews.
