Hansel Edmund Downs was born on October 7, 1927 in Berryville, Arkansas. He was the son of Charlie Downs and Grace (Stanley) Downs. He attended school in Oak Grove, Arkansas. On July 7, 1952 he married his sweetheart, Erma Harryman in Harrison, Arkansas. Hansel had worked for the state highway department before entering the United States Army and serving during the Korean Conflict. After his war service, Hansel went to work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Branson in their construction department. He was a member of the Sycamore Log Church where his wife Erma pastored. Upon his retirement, he worked as a door greeter at K-Mart which suited his friendly, outgoing nature well.
Hansel enjoyed many things including animals, which he had many or would adopt those who showed up at his house. He liked to go fishing and be in the outdoors. He also liked eating out. McDonald’s, Golden Corral and Bob Evans were some of his favorite places to go. Hansel liked to watch a good television show like Walker Texas Ranger or Gunsmoke. He was very giving and loving and will be sorely missed.
