Janice Kay (McGinnis) Derfelt was born on February 16, 1938 in Holton, Kansas. She was the daughter of Ralph Earp McGinnis and Blanche Elizabeth (Hood) McGinnis. She graduated from Holton High School and went on to attend the University of Missouri Kansas City. Janice married Paul Warren Derfelt on June 29, 1958 at the Holton Methodist Church. She and Paul worked together in his dental practice. Janice was a hygienist and the office manager. She was a faithful church member and served in her membership at Asbury United Methodist in Wichita. Along with being a great wife she took care of her family well. Janice had been a Girl Scout and when her girls got involved in Girl Scouts, Janice became a Girl Scout Leader. She was also involved with PEO, Kansas Woman, and 4-H.
Janice and Paul moved to Branson twenty-eight years ago to own and operate Brill’s Rainbow Resort. Janice was a member of Branson Bible Church where she continued her journey of faithfulness and service to her Lord and Savior.
Janice entered into rest on her 80th birthday, February 16, 2018 at her home in Branson surrounded by her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Blanche McGinnis; her husband, Dr. Paul W. Derfelt; brother, Dale McGinnis and great-grandson, Zane Blasdel.
She is survived by her children, Debra Blasdel and husband Eric of Wichita, KS, Cheryl Bosley and husband Jerry of Branson and David Derfelt and wife Tee Eller Derfelt of Lindale, TX; eight grandchildren, Kyle Blasdel, Chad Blasdel, Bryn Blasdel, Austin O'Daniel, Andrew McKeown, Dillon Derfelt, Dawson Derfelt and Daxton Derfelt along with eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Branson Bible Church. Visitation will begin at 2:00 P.M. with a celebration of her life to begin at 3:00 P.M., officiated by Pastor Jeff Griffis. Burial will follow in Ozarks Memorial Park Cemetery, Branson under the direction of Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home and Crematory, Branson.
